Liam Reiff, an Eagle Scout Candidate learned that West Babylon was one of few towns that didn’t have their own 9/11 memorial for residents who lost their lives on 9/11. He envisioned a place for the families, community and future generations to visit, pay their respects, and never forget those who lost their lives. The Memorial is located at the entrance of the Sports Field of West Babylon High School. The Memorial includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, along with a seedling from the "Survivor Tree". The tree, a Callery Pear, endured the September 11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. The seedling stands as a living reminder of resilience, survival, and rebirth. The Memorial includes two granite beams representing the Twin Towers, beautiful flowers, and a large monument with two plaques: a description of the artifact and a plaque inscribed with the names of the 9/11 victims from West Babylon. It reads: "No day shall erase you from the memory of time".
